What Do We Make of Media

Technology today never stops changing. You can never know too much about it, because once you come even remotely close another thousand items and programs come out that change everything again. To be in the loop with technology we always have to stay connected and learning. It's the amount of interest and time we put into this new technology what's going to keep us upto date.
Media amateurization according to Shirky means its meadia that everyone can do. Meaning we as people make it whatever we want it to be.
For example, Fox news extensive reporting on Chelsea Clinton's wedding, and barely reporting on Obama's news on the ending of the war in Iraq. Regardless of what is more important, they decided to report everything to do with the wedding. Obviously, it seems that for Fox news a former first daughter's wedding is more important to the possibility of a whole war ending, and for thousands of soldiers to finally come home.
Over all we make media as we go along, what is important today may not be important tomorrow and so on. Reporters investigate the stories that they think people want to hear, for ratings sake, perhaps. Instead of reporting on the stories people should hear, because they are important to the whole society and more relevant with our lives, something that will affect us in any way.
Many years ago we would have never thought that to actually mass publish something you wouldn't have to work for a newspaper, radio, or TV station. Now thanks to the internet, and new websites such as blogs, we can do the work ourselves. We can publish our thoughts, comments on any given subject, or things that are happening right now, and we can do this at any time of the day. We can post videos for other people to see, even if they are in other countries. So this way we don't have to depend on newspapers, radio, TV, or reporters such as the ones from Fox to find out what is going on in the world and what is important to us.

  2. I totally agree with you that the world is changing so rapidly everyday so that we can't loosen up a bit at any moment because we never know what it is going to happen next. Technology is a very realistic, rational, and competitive field. If one can't fully focus on one thing for a long time, one is running the risk of being fired because the company wants to hire someone who is competitive and fast so that the company can make money fast; other things might not be as important as making money. Regarding Chelsea Clinton's wedding, I personally feel it is interesting to see how a former president's offspring goes next. We do not know too much about the career or education of Chelsea Clinton as a daughter of the president of the United States or her educational level might not be attractive to audience as much as how her wedding is like. What we know more is how much her wedding costs because she is lucky that her parents are holding dominant power in the hierarchy of a nation. It shouldn't be too surprising that the media goes with how favorable of a targeted topic will be because media needs to count on popularity in order to make profit.
