Some Comedy

Hey everyone,

A funny addition to yesterday's & today's lectures:

  1. Haha this is so true! While there is something to be admired in people's desire for all things (technologically) progressive in the things it makes possible, more efficient, organized, thorough, connective, collective etc., it does seem like a LOT of this totally incredible technology is utilized for super silly-ous things like "what's in my purse!" vlogs. (The contents of one's purse simply cannot elevate beyond a certain level of amazingness, yet there are HUNdreds of such videos on Youtube constantly being beamed up into space and into our brains--couldn't this time and energy be better spent?? haha).

Also, I too find it super annoying when people complain with such tortured disgruntlement when their cellphone (uhm, a palm-sized computer...) begins to act finicky. People get so incredibly exasperated and even angry when there's a seconds-long delay on their internet browsin'--it just seems so crazy not to mention such a bad way to expend your energy. Like, (and not to be a jerk) but, really...? Calm down, the world isn't going to end because you cannot check facebook at this exact moment in time. Maybe we should all force ourselves from time to time to take a break from being plugged into this matrix that's running 24/7 to reboot. You know, read a book (whatever THOSE things are), people watch, enjoy the quiet, just stop freaking out all the time and enjoy the sunshine...

  2. (As a fan of Louis CK, I'm quite happy that his opinion is one of our study material!)

I agree with CK. We are individuals who are very lucky to live in this decade. We have technologies; things that can be considered science fiction stuff fifty to one hundred years ago! However, we are unable to appreciate the things that we possess (or utilize them discreetly). (Are we ready yet for these advancements?) We complain and moan about everything...Well, things are bad in most cases anyway. So, I guess this is good in a sense. This feeling of unsatisfactory drives us to move forward...Nevertheless, we are a bunch of spoiled and lazy individuals. Technologies (and other advancements) made everything easy for us, which bring us to our own doom. [see: Guernica by Pablo Picasso] People rely on calculators instead of brain. Foods are made to be delicious rather than healthy. (Or, "healthy" rather than nutritious.) Sooner or later, we are all going to grow horizontally. Of course, we're all going to be lazy people, too.

Sometimes, I worry if Wall-E is prophetic.
